The Agricultural Landscape of Southern Öland includes villages, arable fields, the Great Alvar and coastlands. Today’s farmers continue to cultivate the land and let their animals graze the Great Alvar and the coastlands. Thanks to their work, this agricultural landscape will be there for future generations to enjoy.
Spring
Work on the fields starts in March or April, when the soil is dry. The farmers plough, harrow and fertilise the soil. Then they sow the crops: potatoes, brown beans, onions, corn and much more. In May the farmers release their animals into the fields. Now the grass has started to grow for the animals to graze.
